The elevation at Camp Ponderosa is about 6,600 feet above sea level. Weather in late April/early May at this high-elevation Rim location is generally mild and pleasant during the day, with average highs in the 70s°F (warmer toward early May) and lows in the 40s°F (cooler nights possible).

Temperatures can range from the low 30s°F on chilly mornings to the low-to-mid 80s°F (or rarely higher) on warmer afternoons. Dress in layers, prepare for cool nights and sun exposure, and check updated forecasts closer to the conference dates for the most accurate outlook.

Register using the Registration Button that will take you to  the conference website and once your registration is confirmed, download the app.

You can check in the evening before or the morning of the Conference. (Make sure, if staying on site you set your arrival day to coincide with when you are checking in.)

Check in will be in the “Cafe” area of the Dining Hall. You will be provided a bag with your registration schedule, meal tickets, and any prepaid merchandise

Yes, but on a limited basis. The shirts and other SAR merchandise will be limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

To guarantee you have the size and/or other items you want, we highly encourage you to purchase them at the time of registration

There is spotty cellular service in the area, but there will be a Verizon Tower on site during the conference. We will have more information at the time of Registration Check-In.

No, UTV’s / Quads are not allowed to be utilized by anyone not part of the official Conference Staff.  They will need to be kept trailered at all times when on the property.  (The UTV class will take place off-property.)

Drones are not allowed to be flown on camp property.

There will be helicopters on site. Having drones in the air will prevent the necessary helicopter maneuvers for those classes.

The Conifer Cafe offers a delightful selection of espresso drinks and cream sodas. It is located in the registration area of the Dining Hall.

SAR field attire (boots, pants, layered clothing).

Notebook, pen, water bottle, comfortable outdoor clothing, personal first aid kit, and any required gear (e.g., boots, backpack, compass, rope gear, etc.). Some classes may involve field work—check class descriptions.

The Camp is not a full-service hotel. You will be provided a mattress, but will need to bring all other items – such as blankets, sheets, and pillows.  (Some have found it helpful to have a blanket to place under the waterproof mattress to help stop the plastic-on-metal squeak.)

In addition to bedding, bring towels and any toiletries you need for showering.  You may want to bring shower shoes and a small bag/bin to take toiletries into the shower area.

There is some power available in the bathrooms and near the beds. You will need to supply any power cords, chargers or hair dryers.

There is no “secure” means to store your personal items, so you should consider bringing something that locks – such as a locking bag or trunk to secure your gear.  each bed has a non-locking cubby next to it to place things on/in.

At the time of registration, you will be asked for the overall length of your RV/Trailer. This matters because some spacing is limited for the larger RV/Trailers and we will do our best to accommodate everyone. The spaces are “DRY CAMPING”. There will be no hookups (no water, sewer dump station, or power available).

Bicycles are allowed, however, they must be ridden only on the roads, abiding by traffic law.  They are not to be ridden on sidewalks or walking trails/paths.  They are also not to be ridden off of the roads.

Anyone taking the helicopter class MUST have a letter of permission from their SAR coordinator to be eligible for the hands on portion of the class.  Environmental conditions will determine the hands on portion of the helicopter class.  All participants MUST have eye and ear protection at minimum.  Helmets are also required; there may be some available for use.
